Haley Marsiglio, senior at Lake Shore High School, was accepted and made the cheer team at her dream school, Saginaw Valley State University!
Marsiglio atteneded one of Saginaw’s cheer clinics online, and that’s when she knew that Saginaw Valley was the school she wanted to go to. She did not have to look at any other schools before she got to practice with their cheer team.
Marsiglio said, “I thought tryouts were really easy. We had a meeting before tryouts and that was more nerve wracking because I was nervous to meet people. I don’t really go places without knowing a lot of people.”
Since Marsiglio is such a friendly person after that meeting she made a new friend which made tryouts so much easier for her.
Meeting new coaches can be scary, especially an entirely new coach that hasn’t been there since you started cheering. Marsiglio said, “When I went to the clinic she was very intimidating.”
She states that “ten out of ten Lake Shore cheer has definitely prepared me for this. I was always being pushed to do bigger and better things by my teammates and by my coach, and I was definitely not intimidated by the stunts and things we had to do. It was so easy! Definitely with school too. I didn’t start going there yet but I already know.”
Marsiglio is planning on majoring in elementary education and minoring in Spanish. She has a internship at her mom’s school which has solidified her passion for education.
The thing she will miss the most about Lake Shore cheer is the people. She said, “all the girls that I’ve cheered with have became my best friends. Outside of cheer, I have maybe one or two good friends.” The bond with her cheer friends was built because of the time spent together during competitive season. It’s six days a week, two hours a day, plus seven hours on Saturday.
Overall, Marsiglio can’t stress enough on how excited she is to be a SVSU student and cheerleader.
