A new smoothie place has opened up on 11 mile and Harper called “Smoothie King” and many Lake Shore High School students are comparing it to Tropical Smoothie Cafe. They offer drinks that are meant to be healthier for you and help you achieve your fitness goals or live a healthier lifestyle. Many fellow Shorians have tried out Smoothie King and some even work at Smoothie King. The question is: Is it worth it? Does it live up to the hype of Tropical Smoothie Cafe?
Visiting Smoothie King for the first time on Sunday, March 24th, it was quite evident that they have a purpose for creating a healthy beverage. Smoothie King has protein in most or their drinks. They offer Slim Blends, Wellness Blends, Fitness Blends, and Take a Break Blends. Smoothie King is open 7AM-9PM Mondays through Fridays, 8AM-9PM Saturday, and 10AM-8PM Sundays. Unlike Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s one-size cup of 24 oz, Smoothie King comes in three different sizes, small (20 oz), medium (32 oz), and Large (40 oz).
Smoothie King also mentions on the plastic cups that they are recyclable, unlike their old styrofoam cups they had before which are similar to the styrofoam cups at Tropical Smoothie. For those who care about eco-friendliness and recycling, Smoothie King might be the right choice.
Smoothie King has a different price range from Tropical Smoothie Cafe. The medium smoothies typically cost $7.69, which most find pretty expensive. Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s smoothies typically cost around $5.00.
Smoothie King sells other fitness related things such as smoothie shakers, protein powders, protein bars, water bottles, etc. Smoothie King also has a drive thru whereas the Tropical Smoothie Cafe closest to Lake Shore High School does not have a drive thru.
Overall, Tropical Smoothie Cafe is more of a cafe with food and drinks, while Smoothie King is more based on just smoothies for health and fitness purposes. Whether or not Smoothie King lives up to the hype of Tropical Smoothie Cafe is whatever your personal preference is.
