Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids

Lake Shore High School is partnering with Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids which is an non profit organization that make wigs for children affected by hair loss due to cancer ir medical complications.

Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids will be at Lake Shore High School Thursday, March 21st, 2019. They will be in the new gym from 12:00-3:00 pm taking donors hair. Currently 25 of Lake Shore’s students, some elementary students, and staff will be participating in the ¨Cut-a-Thon¨ by Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids according to Senior Elizabeth Stacheit. The whole Lake Shore district has been invited to participate in this fundraiser. Stacheit will be one of those students donating her hair.

Stacheit, senior, is going to be donating her hair for a good cause. Stacheit believes that any student including herself can be the change. Stacheit is leading the fundraiser. Children who suffered from hair loss whether it was from cancer or medical complications deserve to be able to have the chance to fit in with society.

Stacheit believes that in order to support the hair drive fully she must donate her hair, ¨I will be donating my hair for the hair drive because I think that it is important that if you are trying to push other people towards supporting a cause you have to fully support the cause yourself. It would appear hypocritical for me to ask other people to donate their hair if I was not going to donate mine. More than that, I believe that Wigs 4 Kids is a very just and unique cause as they give free wigs to any child that is losing their hair which allows the child to have less issues with their self esteem.¨

My last major haircut where I got a significant amount of length taken off in January of 2017, though I have had a few trims since that time to remove the split ends in order to keep my hair healthy to donate it.¨ The donations of hair will go to many children. Many of whom could be living in St. Clair Shores or around the area.

Gwozdz realized that people take hair for granted and decided to use his natural growing hair for good by deciding to donate it to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids.  Stacheit also noticed how people take hair for granted and took action to grow her hair out for kids in need. Stacheit developed a strong relationship with Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids, ¨Wigs 4 Kids was founded by Lake Shore High School alumni Maggie Varney, and their nonprofit is located right in St. Clair Shores, so we are supporting a nonprofit in our own community by working with Wigs 4 Kids. Not only that, but we’re also helping to support the children in our community that are in need of our assistance.¨

Stacheit  wants kids who don’t have the ability to grow their own hair to fit in with society, “Growing up is difficult enough even when you are blessed to have your own hair, but these children that need wigs have an even more difficult time growing up and feeling self-assured because they feel like they don’t fit in with their peers or they’re scared that someone will make fun of them.” Stacheit believes that it is important for the kids fighting life threatening diseases to have self confidence during this hard time in their lives, “Not only that, but some of the children that need wigs are also fighting a life threatening illness while trying to fit in with their peers. I believe that we should do everything in our power to help children gain self confidence. When a child feels confident they are more likely to engage in their academics, socialize more, and have a better experience compared to when a child feels self conscious all the time.¨

Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids not only makes custom wigs for kids in need according to Stacheit, ¨Not only does Wigs 4 Kids give the children wigs, but they offer programs that help the children feel ‘more normal’ such as taking field trips together, having craft days, and offering therapy to the children and their families. Wigs 4 Kids is a local charity as well, and many of the children that receive wigs are local, which adds to my willingness to donate my hair.¨  This is a very excellent experience that kids who are suffering deserve.

At the end of the day, 8 inches of hair has more power than a bun or cool hairstyle. 8 inches of hair can change the way of how someone is received in today’s society. Hair isn’t a necessity to life nor does it change who you are. Hair does not defy a person’s beauty, but can defy how they conquer societies evilness. The person reading this article can make a change in someone’s life in a variety of ways, Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids is one of those.
