City Meet – Track

Lake Shore High School’s Track and Field team is off to the races, and the city meet is already around the corner. On May 15th, the boys and girls track teams will be competing at South Lake High School against South Lake and Lakeview for the annual city meet.

The boys varsity track has claimed Division Champions in the MAC Silver in 2016 and MAC Gold in 2017, and are seeking another division champ title as well as a city meet win this year in 2018. The girls varsity track team is on the rise as well, also hoping to get a division champ title and a win at the city meet this year.

Lakeview has had a strong team for years, beating the competition since the beginning, but Lake Shore is ready to go. Sarah Tackett, senior at Lake Shore High School and girls varsity discus thrower, has been on the team since her freshman year of high school. She also ran track in middle school for two years. She is very excited for the meet, saying, “It’s going to be a close meet. I’m confident with my event, we have three strong throwers.” The girls have won both of their meets so far and hope to extend their winning record even further.

Johnathan Puma, also a senior at Lake Shore, is on the boys varsity track team. He has been running track since his freshman year of high school and ran track in middle school. He runs the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles and has done both events since eighth grade. He also runs the two mile this year after running cross country in the fall. He is happy with the result of their season so far, saying, “The meet against L’anse Creuse was out first dual meet loss in two years so we have been doing very well. I am confident that is we don’t win the city meet, we will have given everything we’ve got and done our very best.” Puma also says, “As for my own events, I feel confident in myself and my teammates. All of us have been improving and I am very proud of all of the new hurdlers that have started this year.” The boys track team has one win and one loss so far this season, and they hope to get a win and take the reign Lakeview has over the city meet.

The city meet is big for the track team, and they are looking for your support. Come show some Shorian Pride at the meet on May 15th at South Lake Athletic Field at 4:00 pm.
