New Pistons Lineup: Blake Griffin

On January 29th, 2018, the Detroit Pistons acquired star power forward Blake Griffin in a shocking trade.

The Los Angeles Clippers shocked the entire league when they sent away Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons. Nobody saw this coming as the Clippers earlier this year announced that Blake Griffin was the franchise of the team and gave him a whopping 5 year $171 million dollar contract extension.  The Detroit Pistons traded away a handful of players for this all-star including Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, and a draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin, Willie Reed, and Brice Johnson. The Pistons released Willie Reed for cap space. Ever since Blake Griffin has been playing for the pistons they have been 5-3, 5-1 being at home and 0-2 on the road.

Blake Griffin has been dealing with injuries left and right for a few years now. Piston fans are worried as he may be an injury bug during the season. Piston fan, Sloan Taylor comments on how he feels about Griffin’s injuries, “Hopefully those won’t be a problem.” Griffin was out since late november with a sprained MCL in his left knee and returned late December. The Pistons no doubt won this trade, but was it worth all the guys they handed over for Griffin ,who is 28, and has been dealing with injures? Tobias Harris who was Pistons former Power Forward is 25 years old and has hardly no injures. Harris is averaging 18 points per game compared to Griffins 21 points per game. Griffin has one thing Harris doesn’t have which is fame; Harris is a very talented basketball player but he does not draw in fans like Griffin does. Since the pistons acquired Griffin, Detroit has been talked about more than usual which is what the pistons were hoping to do. Some people think the pistons upped their ticket prices.

Sloan Taylor explains his feelings for this trade, “I feel the trade was good for the team.”  Taylor also goes on to explain what he hopes to see in the future, “I hope he (Blake Griffin) takes us to the playoffs every year.” This would be good for detroit as it could bring in many free agents due to Griffins stardom. Taylor believes the pistons will make the playoffs this year and comments on how far they go, “The 2nd round.” That’s pretty good considering the east has Lebron and let’s face it, no one can beat lebron well except the warriors.

The Detroit Pistons made the right move trading for Griffin as he will lure big name players to detroit. The city of Detroit is very happy to see this dominant player take over and soar with star center Andre Drummond. Who knows, maybe Lebron James or Kevin Durant will want to play with this duo. As of right now the Pistons are the 9th seed in the eastern conference sitting behind the Miami Heat by 3 games, rally the boys and hope for a win!
