The artistic students of Lake Shore High School have recently submitted their artwork into the art portion of the Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. Several regional awards were won by these phenomenal students through this competition.
Lake Shore High School students competed with many other students from Macomb, Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and St. Clair Counties. Macomb Community College and the College for Creative Studies sponsor the Michigan Thumb Region, which received nearly 2,600 works of art and 60 portfolios this year from 7th-12th grade students in the above counties.
The works are adjudicated and selected for Gold and Silver Key, Honorable Mention Awards, American Vision nominations, and Best of Show Portfolios. Fifteen National Gold and Silver Medals were awarded to students in the Michigan Thumb Art Region in 2018. Eight out of these fifteen medals were awarded to Lake Shore High School’s most creative students. Three out of the eight medals that were won received Gold Key status. Gold Key-winning work is automatically submitted for national judgement.
The awards ceremony is held at the Macomb Center for Performing Arts followed by an exhibit in the Lorenzo Cultural Center. Students who will be receiving these honors are Chaolei Lewis, sophomore, Alayana Current, junior, Marina Okray, Lexie Vaughn, and Maya Wiegand who are all seniors.
