Halloween Movies

When you think of the Fall season you’re confronted with a plethora of thoughts. From the smell of pumpkin spice to the crunching of autumn leaves, there is one thought that overrides it all, Halloween.

Some like to celebrate by going door to door in their fanciest DIY costume, however, some like to celebrate by indulging in hot cider while snuggled up in their bed watching classic Halloween movies. Here are the Top 10 Halloween movies sure to get you in the Halloween spirit.

Halloween (1978)

This American classic Halloween (no pun intended) movie is a series of ten different films. For horror movie lovers the storyline to this cult classic is all too familiar. On Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers killed his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was locked away for fifteen  years, but on October 30, 1978, Michael Myers steals a car and escapes. He returns to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he preys on his next victims.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

This Disney Original movie is a must watch, even once Halloween is over. When Max Dennison moves to the town of Salem,  Massachusetts, he discovers the dark truth in a superstitious story about the Salem witch house, and awakens an evil coven of witches. Max, his sister Dani, and his new found crush Allison, will have to try and save the children of Salem from the evil witches´ spell.  

Halloweentown (1998)

This Disney Movie series consists of four films: Halloweentown, Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown. After finding out she’s a witch, Marnie Piper sets out to save the supernatural beings of the even more supernatural town of Halloweentown. Throughout the series, Marnie and her grandmother, Aggie, fight off several villains endangering not only the supernatural world, but the mortal world as well.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

When Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown, becomes bored with his day to day life, he goes in search of something new. When Jack stumbles upon the colorful Christmas town his life’s turned upside down. Jack will go to great lengths to change things up in Halloween Town.

Beetlejuice (1988)

After a couple dies in a car accident, they get stuck haunting their old country residence. When an unbearable family moves in, Barbara and Adam Maitland try to find a way to drive them out. Their efforts attract a wild spirit by the name of Beetlejuice, who causes trouble for both the spirits and the new homeowners.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

One year after running over a fisherman and dumping his body in the water, four friends reunite  when Julie gets a mysterious letter telling her that someone knows about the fisherman. Who will be next in this continuous line of bloodshed?

Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

When sweethearts Brad and Janet are stuck with a flat tire in the middle of a storm, they enter the creepy mansion of Dr. Frank-n-Furter. They encounter some odd characters, and lose the innocence they once possessed. This cult classic musical is known for its elaborate dances and rock music.

The Shining (1980)

This story was originally written by the horror king himself, Stephen King. This movie showcased a writer named Jack Torrence and his family who settles into the isolated and erie Overlook Hotel in Colorado. However,  when his psychic son’s visions become worse and worse, they uncover dark secrets of the hotel. Along with its dark past, they are introduced to a  murderous villain who terrorizes the family.

Ghostbusters (1984)

When a team of scientists lose their job at a university in New York City, they decide to become “ghostbusters” to battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a portal to another dimension,and little do they know that it will release evil upon the city. These scientists must rush to save the citizens of New York City.
