On January 26th, 27th, and 28th the Lake Shore auditorium will take a trip back to the 1950’s with their performance of Bye Bye Birdie. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. as usual and will showcase Lake Shore’s appreciation of the fine arts and the era in general. The play will feature 43 students from various clubs and groups.
The entire show centers around Conrad Birdie, played by Nick Rizzo, senior. Conrad is a rock and roll superstar who gets drafted into the US Army and inadvertently upsets his adoring fans. Of the upset fans was one Albert Peterson, portrayed by our own Evan Hazlett, senior, who develops the idea of a hosting a contest to unite the fans again. One lucky female would be serenaded with a love song written by Peterson and kissed by the famous singer. It’s no spoiler that Kim MacAfee, or Jessica Moceri, junior, gets the grand prize. The only problem with this opportunity is that Kim has a boyfriend, Hugo Peabody. Dylan Slamka, senior, represents the jealous boyfriend of Sweet Apple, Ohio.
Conrad stays with the MacAfee family during his time in Sweet Apple. Not everyone is welcome to this idea, namely the father of the household Logan Current, sophomore, as Mr. Harry MacAfee. He grows fond of the idea when Conrad mentions that the entire family will appear on The Ed Sullivan Show alongside their own Kim MacAfee. Despite the acceptance of the family, Hugo plots to ruin the entire performance.
These parts and many more will overtake our student’s lives on the main stage. Katie Stevens, sophomore, and Alex Salerno, junior, make up the rest of the MacAfee family as Mrs. Doris and Randolph respectively. Rose Alvarez has three solo songs during the play, so watch out for Kahlynn Hunt, junior, singing her heart out. Visit the auditorium for the new play in the new year and show your support to the LSHS Drama Club and LSHS Choir.
